Production of ammonia gas from litter in broiler house floors result from the
chemical decomposition of uric acid in droppings by certain bacteria in the litter, and is further influenced by moisture content, pH and litter temperature (3). High levels of ammonia have a negative impact on overall livability, weight gain, feed conversion, condemnation rate at processing, and the immune system of the birds (3-4). Accordingly, it is important to develop cost-effective emission mitigation strategies to improve bird health and productivity.
PACE scientifically researched Swine Waste Treatment 50B (SWT 508) includes specifically selected bacteria known to efficiently digest odor-causing organic waste. They then utilize the ammonia as a nitrogen source for growth, producing more microbial cells, which then eat
even more waste. The result is a decrease of ammonia and other malodors which can lead to better animal health, shorter finishing times, decreased energy costs,
and improved worker safety.
